The Arches of Utah

Utah is a desert state and so we expected its landscape to look different than what we’re used to. But I don’t think we were prepared for how different. This entire area is the artwork of the forces of millions of years of erosion through the sandstone of an ancient seabed. Everywhere you go are canyons, arches and other weird land formations that change in appearance by season and by the light of the day. We are here in late spring and we’re seeing flowers and greenery that would be uncommon to see in the heat of full summer. As it is, daytime temps are reaching 30C and the dryness takes some getting used to.

Our first full day in Moab we spent at Arches National Park, the most popular in the state. This park’s claim to fame are its collections of odd arches most of which are well off the beaten path but many of which are easy to access by car or a short hike. the views below are in the morning sun.
