This is a gorgeous town situated in Colombia’s coffee country. The town is colourful and quaint and is able to keep its charm despite a high number of tourists. My main reason for coming here was to see the Cocora valley, known for its 60 m high wax palms. Here’s what I saw:

The Valle de Cocora (Cocora valley) is one of the most popular hikes in the country. It’s about 10km long and takes about 4-5 hours to complete. The weather is pretty variable in the mountains so it went from sun to cloud then back to sun.

The following day, I took a day trip to Machin volcano. It was a 4.5 hour expedition each way to the site and back on some of the worst roads I’ve ever been on in a truck that was scarcely road worthy. First I had to get a hearty breakfast after which I got a text from my guide that he was having problems with his truck. We were delayed 3 hours while my guide got the truck repaired.
